Issue No.38: What has 4 months of little Cammy reminded me about performance?
Episode 4: Burnout and Performance - Tess Browne
Meet Cammy, my 6 month old Fox Red Labrador. I have walked her on a daily basis for the last 4 months - no podcasts or music, just her, nature and my observations.
I am going to share some insights, as it has definitely provided the opportunity to slow down and take note of characteristics. Characteristics that we either take for granted or don’t spend time looking to enhance and develop, if we are serious about performance.
Ambition - when it comes to new challenges, particularly in the size of sticks you can carry, your self-belief is quite remarkable
Open minded - when it comes to new opportunities, for example, hearing the fridge open when you are engaged in other activities, or the start of a new day, you will always greet activities with excitement
Well being - you understand the benefit of daily fresh air, movement and exercise which you embrace with enthusiasm, whilst also balancing activity with rest and recovery to perform well
Curiosity - you are inquisitive and curious about new experiences, but also understand boundaries and safe places to reset, showing true self-awareness.
Of course this is tongue in cheek as she is a dog, but it has made me reflect on how often we go through life not observing the lessons that are all around us.
From the curiosity and sense of fun that children encapsulate, to the daily interactions we have with people. There are lessons in everything and as Ghandi says:
“Live as if you were to die tomorrow. Learn as if you were to live forever”.
What lessons will you learn today?
